Why is my Vedic sign different from my Western sign?
Vedic astrology measures the zodiac against the stars, and the Western zodiac against the seasons. The two have drifted apart by about 24 degrees, so most positions fall one sign earlier in the Vedic chart.
Which sign matters most, Sun, Moon or ascendant?
In Vedic practice the ascendant sets the houses and the Moon sign sets Sade Sati, the rashifal and guna milan. The Sun sign matters least.
What is Sade Sati by rashi?
Saturn crossing the sign before your Moon sign, the Moon sign and the one after it. The table above shows today's state for each.
How this is calculated
Positions come from Skyfield and the JPL DE440s ephemeris, with our own Lahiri ayanamsa referred to the mean equinox of date. Every planet agrees with Swiss Ephemeris to under one arcsecond, and the lunar node to under a tenth of one. We publish that because nobody else in this market publishes theirs.

- JPL planetary ephemerides. NASA JPL's ephemeris export page. The DE440s kernel we load is the source of every raw planetary position.
- Capitaine, Wallace and Chapront (2003), IAU 2006 precession. The precession expressions our Lahiri ayanamsa is carried forward with from its J2000 anchor.
- Positional Astronomy Centre, Kolkata. The India Meteorological Department office that publishes the Rashtriya Panchang, which defines the Lahiri ayanamsa.
- Swiss Ephemeris. The reference implementation we test against: under one arcsecond on every planet. It is used only in our test suite, never on this site.
