How Trikaal compares
Every comparison here starts with where the other product is better, in its own box, before a word about us. Most people choosing between us should choose them. These pages exist to describe the narrow case where a computed, dated reading is the better answer, so you can tell quickly whether it is the thing you want.
The comparisons
Trikaal compared with AstroSage
AstroSage is the largest astrology platform in India and better than us at most things. Here is the narrow case where a Trikaal reading wins.
Trikaal compared with Prokerala
Prokerala has the deepest free calculator set in Indian astrology. We have one narrow advantage over it. Here is which of the two you should actually use.
Trikaal compared with AI astrologers
Most AI astrology tools let the language model do the astrology. Ours is forbidden from doing arithmetic, and that decides whether a date is real.
What each of them does better, in one line
- AstroSage: Scale and track record. By their own published figures they serve over a million people a day and their Kundli app has been installed tens of millions of times. They have been shipping since 2001. We launched this year.
- Prokerala: Coverage. Their free tool set is wider than ours will be for a long time, and includes whole systems we do not touch, such as KP and Lal Kitab.
- AI astrologers: Conversation. You can ask a chatbot a follow-up question and get an answer in seconds. We hand you a finished document and there is nobody to ask.
Every tool here reads the sky. The reading reads you.
A calculator answers the question you already knew how to ask. The full reading takes your birth minute and answers the one most people actually have, which is when, in dated windows for each part of life. Written in English or Hinglish.

Questions
Why do your comparison pages say the competitor is better?
Because in most respects they are, and a comparison that pretends otherwise is marketing. We would rather lose the readers who want what they do than win them on a claim that falls apart the first time they use both.
Are the numbers about competitors your own measurements?
No. Figures a competitor publishes about itself are attributed to them, and we do not print them as facts we have audited.
What is the one thing Trikaal does that they do not?
Date things, from a published method. The reading is windows you can plan around, every date is computed rather than written, and the free check describes years you have already lived so you can test the method first.
How this is calculated
Positions come from Skyfield and the JPL DE440s ephemeris, with our own Lahiri ayanamsa referred to the mean equinox of date. Every planet agrees with Swiss Ephemeris to under one arcsecond, and the lunar node to under a tenth of one. We publish that because nobody else in this market publishes theirs.
- Skyfield. The astronomy library that computes every position on this site.
- JPL planetary ephemerides. NASA JPL's ephemeris export page. The DE440s kernel we load is the source of every raw planetary position.
- Capitaine, Wallace and Chapront (2003), IAU 2006 precession. The precession expressions our Lahiri ayanamsa is carried forward with from its J2000 anchor.
- Positional Astronomy Centre, Kolkata. The India Meteorological Department office that publishes the Rashtriya Panchang, which defines the Lahiri ayanamsa.
- Swiss Ephemeris. The reference implementation we test against: under one arcsecond on every planet. It is used only in our test suite, never on this site.
