Your lagna, and whether your birth time is good enough
The ascendant is the fastest moving thing in a chart. It changes sign roughly every two hours, but the rate varies a great deal with latitude and season, so how much birth time error you can afford is not a constant. This measures it for your birth specifically, and tells you the answer in minutes.
The ascendant is the frame. Everything else is read through it.
Your lagna decides which house every planet falls in, which means it decides what the entire chart says. Get it right and the rest follows. That is why the reading opens with it and why we warn you when your birth time sits near a cusp instead of quietly picking one.
- What your ascendant and its lord say about how you actually operate, not a sun-sign paragraph
- The yogas your lagna creates or breaks, with the classical rule each one comes from
- How the frame changes the reading of work, marriage and money in your chart specifically
- A near-cusp warning with the alternative chart, if your birth time is close enough to matter

Not ready to spend Rs 258 on a site you found today?
This is the one page where a wrong birth minute changes the answer, so scepticism is the correct response and we would rather you started free. The free reading is built on your lagna, so if it does not sound like you, the frame is wrong, and that is where it shows.
Whichever you start with, the Rs 79 is credited, so the full reading is Rs 179 afterwards and the total is the same either way. A price we quote you never goes up.
Already bought the back-cast? It comes off the price, so yours is Rs 179 + GST and it is one tap in your reports.
Why this matters more than anything else you will read
Every house in your chart is counted from the ascendant. If the ascendant is wrong, the houses are wrong, and a report built on it will be internally consistent and completely inapplicable. Most people give a birth time rounded to five or ten minutes. If your boundary is two minutes away, that rounding decides your chart.
What we do about it
We compute the ascendant, then compute it again ten minutes later, and measure the actual rate of change at your latitude and date. From that we get the number of minutes until the next sign and the number since the last one. If the nearer boundary is under eight minutes away we say so plainly and name the alternative sign, so you can go and check your birth certificate before trusting anything else.
How this is calculated
Positions come from Skyfield and the JPL DE440s ephemeris, with our own Lahiri ayanamsa referred to the mean equinox of date. Every planet agrees with Swiss Ephemeris to under one arcsecond, and the lunar node to under a tenth of one. We publish that because nobody else in this market publishes theirs.
- Skyfield. The astronomy library that computes every position on this site.
- JPL planetary ephemerides. NASA JPL's ephemeris export page. The DE440s kernel we load is the source of every raw planetary position.
- Capitaine, Wallace and Chapront (2003), IAU 2006 precession. The precession expressions our Lahiri ayanamsa is carried forward with from its J2000 anchor.
- Positional Astronomy Centre, Kolkata. The India Meteorological Department office that publishes the Rashtriya Panchang, which defines the Lahiri ayanamsa.
- Swiss Ephemeris. The reference implementation we test against: under one arcsecond on every planet. It is used only in our test suite, never on this site.
Questions about your lagna, and whether your birth time is good enough
My birth certificate and my family disagree about my birth time.
Run both. If the two times give the same ascendant and the boundary is comfortably far away, the disagreement does not matter and you can stop worrying about it. If they give different signs, no reading of your chart is trustworthy until it is resolved.
What is birth time rectification?
Working backwards from events you can date to find the birth time that fits them. It is skilled manual work and we do not offer it. What we do offer is the input to that conversation: how far your stated time is from a boundary, so you know whether rectification is worth paying for.
Is the ascendant the same as my Moon sign or Sun sign?
No. The Sun sign is where the Sun was, and changes about once a month. The Moon sign changes about every two and a quarter days. The ascendant changes about every two hours and depends on where on Earth you were born as well as when. It is the most personal of the three.
Does the ascendant degree matter, or just the sign?
Both. The sign sets the whole house framework. The exact degree decides which nakshatra the ascendant falls in and how close it is to the boundary, which is what this page measures.
